Following Danube From Vienna to Bucharest

Day 1 Vienna - arrival

Arrival at Vienna International Airport, meeting at the airport with English speaking guide, transfer to the hotel for check in. Panoramic City Tour of historical Vienna, plus a leisurely boat trip on the beautiful Danube; you'll see the Prater, the Danube Tower, the United Nations building, as well as famous buildings by Friedensreich Hundertwasser such as the Kunsthaus...and we get out for a closer look at his most well-known building - the Hundertwasserhaus. From the hills of the Vienna Woods, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city over vineyards. On the way back to the city center, we pass through the romantic wine growing village of Grinzing; accommodation.

Day 2 Vienna – Bucharest (B,D)

Breakfast, take a sightseeing tour of the beautiful Bavarian Mountains and a Salt Mine by bus from Salzburg, Austria. Something very different awaits you. Past the hunting castle Hellbrunn, you will cross the Austrian-Bavarian border. Along the Königseeache valley, through the Bavarian Mountains, past romantic farmhouses and the ruins of Obersalzberg, Hitler's former mountain retreat, we arrive at the highlight of the journey, the 500-year-old Salt Mines. We transfer to airport for the flight to Bucharest; accommodation.

Day 3   Bucharest – Tulcea (B,D)

Breakfast, we have a city tour of Bucharest which includes a visit at the Palace of the Parliament (the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon), the Patriarch's Church (residence of the orthodox head leader of Romania), drive to Tulcea; transfer by fast boat, accommodation in Tulcea.

Day 4 Tulcea  (B,D)

Breakfast; on day 4 we go on a ship excursion into the Danube Delta (3446 km²), the second largest river delta in Europe, after Volga Delta, and the best preserved on the continent. The Danube Delta hosts over 300 species of  birds as well as 45 freshwater fish species in its numerous lakes and marshes. Dinner with campfire and accommodation.

Day 5 Tulcea – Suceava (B,D)  

Breakfast; your trip will lead you on this day through Dobrogea region, optional lunch at a restaurant in Bacau, then we visit the Neamt Monastery, one of the most interesting monasteries, important orthodox cultural centre with schools for miniature painters. Accommodation in Suceava.

Day 6 Suceava (B,D)

Breakfast, then we will visit Putna Monastery (a Romanian Orthodox monastery, one of the most important cultural, religious  and artistic centers established in medieval Moldavia), the Arbore monastery (built in 1503, it is one of the smallest in Bucovina) and the Sucevita Monastery (the most decorated monastery from Bucovina). Then we visit the Black Ceramics of Marginea. Accommodation in Suceava.

Day 7 Suceava – Campulung Moldovenesc – Borsa (B,D)

Breakfast; on day 7, you will visit the Moldavian Monasteries of Voronet, Humor and Moldovita. The nun monastery of Moldovita, protected by powerful walls and towers, is one of the largest in Bucovina; this church was painted five years after its founding in 1532. Accommodation in Borsa.

Day 8 Borsa (B,D)

Early breakfast, departure at 08:00 for the tour of Maramures ( Borsa – Sighetul Marmatiei – Sapanta – Barsana – Ieud – Sacel – Borsa); we will visit the Cheerful Cemetery of Sapanta, the Peri Monastery, the Traditional Art Workshop, the Barsana Monestery, the Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Dragomiresti (unique in the country); accommodation.

Day 9  Borsa – Sighisoara – Sibiu (B,D)

Breakfast, on our way to Brasov, we’ll pass through Sighisoara, one of the few fortified towns which are still inhabited and listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and we have a walk tour of city centre. Then we head to Sibiu; free time, accommodation.

Day 10 Sibiu (B,D)

Breakfast, then we visit Sibiu, city that was the cultural capital of Europe in 2007; visit of “ASTRA” Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization which covers an area of 0.96 square kilometres, it is the largest open air museum in Romania and one of the largest in Central and Eastern Europe, then we have a walk tour to visit Town Hall Square, the Bridge of Lies, Brukenthal National Museum; free time, accommodation in Sibiu.

Day 11 Sibiu – Ramnicu Valcea  - Pitesti – Bucharest (B,D)

Breakfast, departure for Pitesti; en route stop visit of the Holy Monastery of Cozia, nearby the Calimanesti-Caciulata resorts and the river Olt, built between 1386 -1388, by Mircea the Elder, the ruler of Wallachia; free time Pitesti for downtown visit, afternoon arrival in Bucharest, accommodation.

Day 12 Bucharest – Vienna (B)

Breakfast, transfer to airport for the flight to Vienna, free time for shopping in Vienna (Parndorf and SCS), accommodation.

Day 13 Vienna – Delhi (B)

Breakfast, transfer to the airoport for the flight back home.
